He's difficult to find before the 1909 marriage isn't he. I think you will need to get a copy of the marriage registration to find out a bit more about him (it appears to be available on Scotlands People). From the army papers we know he was born around October or November 1883. And we know he lived in Troon when he joined the army in 1915, and had some previous army service.

There is a death in Pontefract in 1972 of Edward Albert J Conniss born 13 November 1883 - presumably that is him?

They don't appear to have stayed in Beds for too long. According to the GRO index they had two children born in Ampthill reg district: James W in 1919, and Edward A in 1922, followed by two in Biggleswade reg district: Campbell W in 1924 and John G in 1926. By 1928 they'd moved to Notts where Samuel J's birth was registered in Mansfield reg district in 1928

As Haynes is in Ampthill reg district, perhaps they didn't live in Ampthill at all, but moved from Haynes to another village in Beds in Biggleswade reg district where Campbell and John were born

As there were no Conniss births in England or Wales that could be their children prior to 1919 presumably they were living elsewhere - Scotland/abroad? - between 1909 and 1919

All the children were registered as Conniss, not Connis

What is it that you're hoping to find about Edward in Beds?

David

Per the army papers there were 4  children born 1909-1916 in Scotland (at Muirkirk, Muirkirk, Ayr and Muirkirk respectively).

I wondered why he moved to Haynes. But looking at his army papers he was transferred from Bletchley to Haynes Park while serving in the army with the Royal Engineers, as a skilled harness maker, and stayed on with them after the war. You'd need to get the birth cert of one of the two children born in Biggleswade registration district to get his address at that time.

If you google Haynes park WW1 there's a nice photo of the stables at Haynes Park. It's too early for Edward to be one of the soldiers included in the postcard

I have a gut feeling that you're in the wrong country. I think he was probably from Scotland, which is where he married and enlisted.

He was Irish.

I'm just working through the army service papers for James William Conniss from Galway who was killed in action in France in October 1918. He was also living in Scotland when recruited.

Image 52639 lists his brothers:

Edward  (aged 32) 98 Church End Ampthill, Beds
Samuel (aged 30) 24 Princess Street Devon (?)
David (25) 205 Upr Brook St Winchester

Next of Kin was sister Mary Conniss 58 O'Connell Street Limerick

There also some uncles and aunts listed in Galway & Glasgow
