MARTIN, Edward b St Blazey 1842 d 1864 Nova Scotia

A friend in Nova Scotia has been photographing some gravestones of my family.

She came across this one [not my family but she thought it was worth photographing] in the cemetery of St Thomas Anglican, Fall River.

MARTIN, Edward died 26 Jun 1864 Nova Scotia [so born St Blazey ca 1842].

Edward Martin may relate to a rootschat member, so here is the picture.

Hi Josey,

What a beautiful monument. Looking at the age listed at death he was born in about 1842 not 1832.

He appears to be the son of John and Jane/Jennifer. They can be found in St Blazey in 1841 aged 10 months (MARTYN) 1851 and 1861 he is MARTIN

Father John aged 36 is a copper miner. Oldest child Catherine aged 13

Edward MARTIN was baptised 16 Aug 1840 at St Blazey parents John and Jane

There was a daughter Mary Henwood MARTIN 25 Feb 1838 St Blazey

looks like the likely marriage

Yes, my initial mental arithmetic was wrong - I have put it right!! Thanks for looking him up.

However I found another Edward MARTYN aged 8 on 1851 born St Blazey with parents Edward copper miner & mother Catherine at Church Street St Blazey; in 1861 aged 18 born St Blazey still with parents at St Austell Rd St Blazey. I think the 1840 Edward Martyn is in St Gluvias aged 31 born St Blazey a gunpowder engineer.

It would be lovely if someone related to this family sees this post; I agree it is a lovely headstone & obviously Edward had been well liked by his countrymen in Nova Scotia.

Thanks again. I shall send the details to my friend in Canada, she will be thrilled to know a bit more about the man interred under the headstone. Though it is unlikely Edward had any descendants but I will look on the free indexes on novascotiagenalogy.com.
