Margaret KNUCKY married to William MENHENNET Help
« on: Monday 17 May 10 16:03 BST (UK) »
I am having trouble tracking down the mother of Margaret Knucky and wondering if anyone can help.  I ordered the marriage certificate for Margaret Knuckey and William Menhennet but it just lists the father's names.  I have William and Margaret married at the Parish Church in the Parish of Wendron in the County of Cornwall on July 12, 1843.  William is listed as "full age" (that's another question) and Margaret is listed as 20.  Their residence were both listed as Grigan Grove.  William's father is listed as James Menhennet and Margaret's father is listed as James Knuckey.  I have found three different possibilities for the mother - Ann Dunstan, Mary Faull or Avis Martin.  I haven't been able to find a birth record for Margaret.  Can anyone help with this problem?  Thank you for looking at this request!  Kim

First - full age will mean over 21

So, if Margaret was 20 in 1843 she was born around 1823. That is before Civil Registration began so there will not be a birth cert, just a christening record in a Parish reigister, if she was christened.
But before you can have any hope of finding that, you need to know what sort of area she was born in.
have you found her in a census after her marriage? If so where/when does she say she was born? If not, that would be the first step.
Have you found her on 1841 at all?

It will be impossible to pinpoint any marrige for her parents until there is an idea of where and when - she may have been born 9 months after the marriage (or dare I say less) or 20 years, dpeending on if she was the eldest or youngest.

so, whatever that name is is the parish to look for!

I'll see if 1861 gives any better clue

That last post is interesting!  I found references to the Prisk family somehow being related to either the Knuckey or Menhennet family previously, but I don't know the connection.

It appears I lost a previous posting.  William and Margaret had 21 children, 9 of which outlived William who died in 1907.  William was blinded in a mine explosion when he was 19 and engaged to Margaret.  She wouldn't leave him.  They emigrated to Negaunee, Michigan where they both lived out the rest of their lives.  William was said to have been still cutting his own firewood right to the end and could hit a nail dead center in spite of the loss of both of his eyes.  I found marriage records for James Knuckey to Avis Martin of March 6, 1824 in Wendron, a different James Knuckey married to Mary Faull November 11, 1823 in Wendron and James Knuckey married to Ann Dunstan November 6, 1824 in Stithians.  I'm wondering if James married to Mary Faull is our best bet??
