Silly Question of the Day!
« on: Friday 21 May 10 12:53 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am sure this has been answered elsewhere but I'm starting to go mad reading the boards looking for the answer so I'll just ask.

What information would I find in the parish registers for a marriage? I have the marriage certifcate but this isn't really helping so I'm wondering if the parish records would have any other information in it.

Thanks for your help

Pebs

What is the date of this marriage? There should be very little difference in the information given, but if it is before 1837 there is no certificate anyway.

For post-1837 marriages for England and Wales the parish record should be an identical copy of the certificate you can obtain from the GRO (ie it is a duplicate copy of the form). I say "should" because I have come across a very small number of cases where a father's name has been blank in the parish register but added on the GRO copy and vice versa.

Thanks for that Nigel

BUT I just had another thought having re-read my original post: when I say parish records I should have said Church records - told you it was going to be the silly question of the day - are they likely to have any different / additional information on them?

Thanks again

........when I say parish records I should have said Church records....

The parish records are those recorded for the parish church (ie same thing).

It's a standard preprinted form that is used so whether you obtain the record from the parish record (parish church), the local Registrar or GRO they should all contain the same information.

Hi pebs,

If you post the Marriage Cert details someone maybe able to help.

Place, Date, Names, Ages, Parents Names, Occp and Witnesses names etc.

Do you have them on any Census?

Trish :)

Hi Trish

I have them both on censuses after the wedding - but can only find the wife and her family before the wedding.

The husband is being very elusive - I can't find him before he marries.

I have posted on other boards to try and locate this man - but nothing so far.

It was just a sudden thought I had that maybe there could be additional information in the Church records (I was clutching at straws with crossed fingers)

Thanks for the thought though
