The Amazing Disappearing Withebeds and Bodicoats
« on: Monday 24 May 10 01:24 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace the Withebed line, which begins with Richard Withebed marrying Anne Bodicoat in 1754 in Cosby.  Unfortunately, after one generation, the entire family seems to disappear from any records in any county.  I have even tried US and Canadian locations, but gotten nowhere.  As it stands the last remaining male Withebed appears to be John born in 1815 in Cosby, and the last female is Sophia in 1825. The trail has gone completely cold.  Samuel Bodicoat in 1784 is also the last stop on the trail for that line.  Any suggestions, help etc. would be, as usual, greatly appreciated.

Have you discounted a connection to the Bodicoat names in Blaby and Whetstone? (A number of variation too)

Whilst they may not be in a direct line it might be worthwhile working back to see if there is a link

Both villages are about a mile from Cosby. So well within a household move.

you seem to be looking forwards rather than backwards which is not a very good idea. have you tried working backwards?

Thanks for the suggestions.  I will try to connect the Wigston Bodicoats to mine.  As for working forwards,  I am connected to Anne Bodicoat, born in Cosby in 1730 to Freer and Dorothy Bodicoat.  Anne's brother Thomas had a son Freer born in 1758 in Cosby according to the IGI.  H appears to have married Mary Underwood in Wigston in 1780.  Is it possible that Freer was actually from Wigston as the marriage record shows he is of Wigston parish?
Will soldier on on these leads which I hope lead back to Freer and Dorothy.
Thanks again.
