Help please with Gt Grandparents death
« on: Thursday 27 May 10 18:24 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

Would anyone be able to help or advise me on tracing and  finding the dates of my gt grandparents death.
I have them on the 1911 census a John Lewis and his wife Elizabeth living at 4 Harris View, Penrhiwceiber. John being 75 and Elizabeth being 60, but there are far to many John and Elizabeth Lewis on FreeBMD to hit on the correct ones. I have telephoned the two local council run cemetery offices at Aberdare and Glyntaf, they have no burial records for either, also I telephoned the registrar at Pontypridd for help but told without the dates they would be unable to help.
Therefore any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

If you establish which registration district they were living in in 1911 and look for deaths in that district - it may help narrow the search

Also - the age at death is shown against the freebmd entry which will also help narrow it down

Many thanks CaroleW, will give that a try and will keep the post updated.

Just tried FreeBMD as suggested not knowing correct date put in from 1911 to 1920 in Pontypridd district and that threw at least 8 entries for John Lewis in the correct age bracket, but no other info is there anyway to check these entries for correct John Lewis.

There is also a cemetery in Abercynon which they could be buried at but normally people from Penrhiwceiber would be buried in the Mountain Ash Cemetery.
The records would be kept by RCT Council these days.

My ex in-laws lived in Harris View, in fact in number 4 but they didnt move in there until 1954.  (tho I do have a feeling that her Maiden name was Lewis - maybe coincidence ....)

You could try Penrhiwceiber library this might be a good place to start - what about trying the electoral registers - not sure when they started  but you could  each year unntil they no longer appear on it ....

I am not sure cemeteries, but it could well have been Glyntaff in Pontypridd or Ynysbwl ????

Good luck !!!

Many thanks to everyone that have given me advice and help, eventually through the Aberdare registary office and local cemetary workers managed to locate my late Gt Grandparents in an unmarked grave at Abercynon cemetary, once again many thanks for the help.

It was down to choice of the locals at one time because penrhiwceiber is in the middle of Abercynon and Mountain Ash.
It also sometimes made a difference with where the rest of the family or parents were buried.
also according to what Funeral Directors was used as there was Teiffy in Miskin Mountain Ash and Jenkins in Abercynon.
As Abercynon is nearly full they tend to use either Mountain Ash or Glyntaf these days.
I am very glad you managed to find them.

If this Lewis family is related to the Coombes family of Penrhiwceiber , Abercynon and Cilfynydd we will be related via my Great grandmother.

Regards
Dave boyce
