Father of Elizabeth Rebecca Bryan - Completed with thanks
« on: Friday 28 May 10 16:47 BST (UK) »
I have hit a slight problem. I have a Charles Stubbs born abt 1865 Winshill.

On later census I have him married to a Elizabeth R.  Checking Freebmd I have found a Charles Stubbs married Elizabeth Rebecca Bryan in Dec qtr 1880 Burton on Trent 6b 557.

On the IGI the date is Nov 14th 1880 at St John's Newhall, Derby, same names and ages match, although a year out with Charles.

In the 1881 census RG11 2760 32 10, Charles is with Elizabeth (born Grantham) and their son, Walter BRYAN

In the 1901 census RG13 4309 91 17, I have all the family except Walter but by now including Horace.

I have found Elizabeth in RG09 2350 91 23 with her parents Robert Peach Bryan and mother Sarah.

My problem is that when I rechecked Charles and Elizabeth's wedding date on the IGI, apart from finding out the date which was a bonus. the location differs from the GRO index), Elizabeth's father is now shown as Joseph Spencer Bryan and not Robert, which has caused great confusion and is what I need some help with.

On Freebmd, Robert Peach married Sraah Tirrell in 1858.

Can anyone help  ???

re: location - freebmd info says about the registration district of Burton
Quote
The district Burton is an alternative name for Burton upon Trent and it spans the boundaries of the counties of Derbyshire and Staffordshire

Are you sure you have the correct 1861 entry

I have found Elizabeth in RG09 2350 91 23 with her parents Robert Peach Bryan and mother Sarah.

How have you concluded that this is the right Elizabeth?

In 1861 Joseph S BRYAN (31, widower) is in Spittlegate, Lincs. With him is a 3yr old daughter Elizabeth R BRYAN: RG9/2352/21/8.

He would have been 15yrs old in 1880 - think you mean 1862?

Hi

In all the census returns, Elizabeth is recorded as being born in Grantham and I now see Little Gonerby comes with the registration district of Lincolnshire.

I have found the entry in the IGI. How likely is that to be accurate? I was given the impression once before that those submitted by members may not be accurate as those which have batch numbers etc attached to them (this is my inexperience showing here not sure if I have that the right way around)

I have looked at all your info and I found the bmd marriage entry for Joseph, so I agree but originally I extracted the info from Familysearch which is how I arrived at the info I did and because it tied up perfectly with the info I had gleaned from the census. I guess the only way to be sure is a certificate. Thought I was doing too well  :'(

Why?  There are 2 IGI entries for this marriage - one submitted and one extracted.  Both give exactly the same info re: her fathers name so what is to be gained by buying a copy of the marriage cert?

The only problem is that you had the wrong 1861 entry so assumed her father was Robert

Carole

Thank you, I did my search slightly different as you mentioned that one entry was submitted and one entry extracted which made me realise I hadn't seen the other version and you are absolutley right,. so thank you so much for mentioning that. I'm doing this tree as a friend's birthday pressy so don't want to have to buy too many certs. Just have too unpick my family tree maker now as I have the wrong info after Elizabeth but no problem, just glad it's right

Best wishes
