Royce Family Mariners
« on: Saturday 29 May 10 14:44 BST (UK) »
I have a John Royce of Spalding Master Mariner in the 1830's & also a Peter Royce Master Mariner. I have a lot of Royce's at later dates, marriages etc but would like to know who are the children of these two and were they related? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for reply but I don't think this is the John I was looking for as he was Master of the "Unity" in June 1832, "Friendship" in Jan 1833 and Master & part owner of "Freedom" in Dec 1833. Unless he retired from the Sea and settled in Everton later which is possible as shipping was in decline at Spalding after the Railway arrived in 1848.

Hi Trish,
Unfortunately not as I found both John & a Peter Royce in the Boston Ships Register. I would expect them to be around the age of 25 to 30 as Masters that would put birth date around 1808 to 1813.

Keith

Trish,
I found John age 52 in 1851 & a death of a John in Spalding in 1856 so perhaps that was the John of my first post. Looks like he did not marry or have a family.
Ivanidea,
The 1852 & 1861 census is interesting as it does show that he is a mariner, born Spalding.
His brother Richard, Unmarried, age 24, mariner is one I have not come across before. I just wonder why they had moved to that part of the UK.

Thanks for information
Keith
