Tonypandy history
« on: Sunday 16 May 10 17:05 BST (UK) »
Hello

I'm looking for a little Welsh help here please - my Grandparents lived in Tonypandy in 1915 to around 1924 (we think) My Dad was born there William Henry May 19/1/15

I am trying to find out any info on my Granddad Harry May - I know we can't get the 1921 census but hope there is some record of them there that will give me a clue to where he was born

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Anne

Thanks Cardiff
Yes

That's my Dad

just been speaking to my elder sister who says she remembers Dad saying that Granddad was involved in the Union there (not sure how as he was a theatre attendant on Dad's bc_ but Dad said that Granddad was shocked by how people were evicted from their homes - I wonder if there is anything on that other than what I've just read on the internet

Thanks
Anne

Hello Gortonboy

My Gran was Beatrice Clark (Or Greaves don't ask)- Granddad wasn't a native of Wales (Believe me we have no idea where he was from) but we do know that he spent a considerable amount of time there - my Dad was 10 when they left (they had 2 more sons there - George and Bob)

Thanks
Anne

In 1911 - they are in Ireland - I'm starting to think they went everywhere that there was trouble!!!

April 1911 - Ireland
June 1911 - Sheffield (My gran was from there and that is where their baby died)
March 1912 - Liverpool ( my aunty Edna born there)
Jan 1915 - Tonypandy (Dad, Bob and George born there)
Jun 1925 Blackpool (my uncle Ron born there)
Dec 1925 - Chesterfiled - where they remained until their deaths.

Gran married William Greaves in Sheffield in 1908 (we've never heard of this until I found the marriage certificate) and by 1911 she is Ireland with Granddad (no record her marriage to Granddad or what happened to this Greaves chap)
- something odd going on with the moving about they did

Yes my PC has decided that I can't reply to the last note from Cardiff - so I've started anew thread - hopefully some on will link for me  Mod comment - done

Granddad was a jack of all trades - mostly a photographer - then thearte attendant, gamekeeper, Theatre Manager, then finally a window cleaner
