PORTWINE of Hythe, Kent
« on: Thursday 03 June 10 12:17 BST (UK) »
I am trying to establish a link between EDWARD PORTWINE of Islington/Middlesex born around 1805 and any of his parents or siblings

I have found references to a GEORGE PORTWINE (Canterbury and Hythe, 1760-1811) and SUSANNAH THISTLETON (1770-1846) having a child EDWARD in 1804, but lacking further information I'm not too sure whether they can be linked ..

Just wondering if any marriage or birth records may exist for Edward giving some clue where he came from originally ? Or where to look next.

George PORTWINE married Susanna THISTLETON 13 August 1795 at Hythe.

You can find details of their children on www.familysearch.org (select Record Search Pilot from Search Records drop down menu).

Well, that certainly makes it a possibility. The 1841 census lists him as being 35-39 and not from the county he was living (Middlesex)..

there is a death of an edward portwine aged 53 on the 3rd dec 1856 in the borough of camden at st pancras church his wife is in st.pancras area in 1851
he is not with his wife eleanor in 1851 though she states married not widowed
in 1861 she states widowed
so going by that he appears to have died between 1851-1861
so there is a very good chance that the death is your man
cattell,alcester
vickers,sulgrave
hewish,holborn
manley,bethnal green

Yes it seems more investigation is needed! Perhaps that wasn't the one after all.
