Blue Jacket crew? *COMPLETED*
« on: Friday 04 June 10 05:13 BST (UK) »
I am tracing a William Mann that married a Mary Elizabeth Buckley in 1867 in Lyttelton New Zealand.  Family letters state that he was a seaman who came to NZ on the "Blue Jacket" as crew from what I understand apparently arriving in 1866. Is there any way of confirming this?

This particular line of family is at a dead end as I have no idea where he originated from. I have a couple of possible deaths with a likely one being in 1919 in Wellington. I am quite keen to explore this one further but am stuck :(

Any suggestions appreciated

Hi Anna

If this 1919 death proves to be your "Mann"  ::)  (William), then there is a probate record available for him at Archives New Zealand (Wellington office).

That is definitely the right ones and as I know several of their children moved to the Wellington area it confirms them and the ages fit also.

I just have no further clues on William prior to New Zealand and would love to trace him back to the UK

Which certificate is likely to give me the most information about where he has come from? His marriage or death cert?

Do you have a date of birth for William? It would narrow down a search in UK
Gadsby's, Farmers, Neals - Leicestershire
Freemans, Littles, Corbetts, Branns - Australia
