Richmond Monkstown - death 1857 Pim
« on: Monday 07 June 10 10:13 BST (UK) »
Hi
Any suggestions as to where I need to look for further information on a death.  I know a Pim died on 22/8/1857 aged 76 at Richmond Monkstown. I appreciate that I can't get a death certificate.  I think the source is an American newspaper article. Do I need to check the parish records of the area?

Sorry been away from the family hunt for sometime and trying to kickstart my research (and my brain!).

Do you know what religion the family were ?

Parish death/burial records can be very basic if they can be found. (e.g. just date, name & age)

Another possible source of information, if the family were reasonably well-off, is death notices in newspapers. The year involved is just before the Irish Times started publishing but it might be worth searching Freeman's Journal of Dublin. This is available by subscription on several website and free to access online and on microfilm in some Libraries.

There are also some headstone transcripts available on line that might be worth checking e.g. http://www.interment.net/

Hi Shane

Thank you for your help.  I think they were Church of Ireland and possible quite rich originally (they were part of the Pim Dynasty but married possibly below themselves (into my family!! ;0)

I will look at newspapers and try some parish records.  Basic info is fine - at the moment I am hoping it is Joseph Pim but the info I have so far doesn't even give a first name!

Thank you again

I'm new to this forum so only seeing this now.

As previously advised, the Pims were Quakers so the Friends Burial Ground at Temple Hill, Blackrock is worth investigation.

As regards Richmond (aka Richmond Park) I know this house and its inhabitants quite well and never encountered a Pim living there in that period. (which isn't to deny that a Pim could have died there as a visitor)

But they occupied many houses in the immediate area (and probably owned a lot more).
One such house was on nearby Richmond HILL and I notice a "Mrs Pim" died there on 22 July 1857 "in her 57th year." (Dublin Evening Post 30 Jul 1857).

To confuse things, Richmond Park is located very close to Richmond Hill and Richmond Park house was, at one time, called Richmond Hill but not so recently as 1857.

Anne Marie hasn't been here since 2012, it's a pity she didn't give a little more information regarding Joseph.
There is a death of a Joseph Robinson Pim in Longford Place Monkstown in 1858

Quite a lot of results for Pim in the Will Calendars http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/search/cwa/index.jsp

Hi!

I'm back.

Unfortunately I don't know v much about my Joseph Pim.  I know he was married to Caroline Matilda Beeho (though haven't found the marriage) and had children with her from about 1824.  I have been "told" he died in 1850ish but have never been given proof of that.  He is not "deceased" on his son's marriage certificate but I don't suppose that means much.

I have found Joseph and Caroline's children and their marriages but never any mention of Joseph.

Caroline Matilda and her sons and daughters lived and died in Dublin and are buried at Mount Jerome cemetery.  I keep checking but no transcription of their graves (in case Joseph is mentioned).

If I could find their marriage it might help with finding his death?  At least I might know age, where to look (possibly).

Any pointers v v gratefully received!

:0)
