The IGI has Bosley baptisms 1788-1847 but there are no Bassons (or similar) in that period, so it would appear that Thomas was not baptised at the parish church.
I've looked at the IGI, the familysearch pilot & beta sites & the BMD registers sites & found nothing there either. I did try extending the area, as Bosley is close to the border with Staffs & Derbyshire, but nothing that seemed particularly likely.

This is a name open to different spellings & transcriptions, so you may want to search with as many wildcard options as possible.

Do you have him on the census - or what is the source for the place of birth?

The exact spelling is a bit of a mystery. The 1841, and 1851 Census shows Thomas born 1776c as a Basson or a Bosson. I have noted a Thomas Bossom born 1739 from Bosley he had married a Nanny Allen on 14th June 1764

I am just putting this website up in case it helps
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/chs/bosley.html

I know this might sound a silly question seeing that the year is so early.Could you Basson/Bason have been Catholic or   any another religion apart from C.O.E? Its well known that Apart from C.O.E that Catholic records are hard to find. The Chester & Cheshire Archive Have early records for Bosley.I don't know if they include All the religions though.

:-[ Thomas was born before 1788 and most likely baptised by then, so that wasn't relevant - sorry!
I've checked and earlier records are at Cheshire RO at Chester & Manchester also has the film (though latter closed at the moment), so that would be the way to check.

There are loads of Bossons round here, but I've never met a Basson. Some of my husband's ancestors worked on the canal as lock keepers and baptized some of their children in Bosley, buried some in North Rode, married at St John's Buglawton and yet more are buried at St Stephen's, Congleton. Some have events at Macclesfield churches as well, best wishes, claytonbradley
