Parish Records
« on: Tuesday 08 June 10 19:30 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know of any research service that provides copies of individual Manx parish records. I recently received a copy of a Manx marriage register entry for my great, great grandparents from Microfiche from 1861 from a distant relation who got it from another relation who is now deceased. I'd like to get more of these parish records.

Thanks Pauline I've used that site before. I'm looking for copies from Microfiche of original parish records not the index stuff on that site.

Regards,

The Mormons filmed the official copy of the Parish registers upto c.1888 for marriages + 1877 for baptisms (though exact cut off date might be different for each parish) as those were the dates civil registration started (for details see http:www.manxnotebook.com under family history) - this official copy is excellent when compared against the original regsiter and for post 1849 follows the actual format of the required register.  These films are borrowable from any Mormon FHC. Post Civil registration documents are only available via General Registry.

Recently the Manx Museum called in all original parish registers that predate civil reg - some were is need of conservation - these are in process of being filmed (I think complete by now) - I understand the filming was done (and paid for) by the Mormons - digitised images will be available in near future but under what conditions hasn't yet been determined, as a new Manx Ancestry centre (now to be called iCentre ?) was to be opened late 2010 but goverment cutbacks have put this in doubt so there might well be online access - indices free but paid for images as in Scotland.
any thing with a Manx Connection

Thanks for the info Frances. The images of parish records on Scotland's People are very nice I have some for my Harvey ancestors. It would be nice to have similar records for my Mylchreests.
