Elficke of Wittersham
« on: Thursday 10 June 10 08:45 BST (UK) »
I have the will of Richard Elficke (d. 14/04/1664) in Wittersham.  Does anyone have information about him - e.g. was he born in Wittersham?, if not where did he come from/  he was married in Tenterden. where where his children (John, Richard, Ann, Margaret, Elizabeth and Sarah) - but in particular, Richard married etc.  I am unable to find parish records from New Zealand.

I am using a FHC in Scotland and Wittersham is one of the films I have ordered. These are mainly BTs so records up to 1813 only.
How can I help?

Liz i would be extremely grateful if you could look up if any elficke / elfick / elphick's were around Wittersham from 1550 - 1700. the Richard i mentioned birth was abt 1616 as he was married in Tenterden in 1636. I know he died in Wittersham in 1665. Was he born in Wittersham? Also his son Richard b 1641 in tenterden - i have no trace of. Was he residing  or married in Wittersham.

I have had a good look at Wittersham and can see no Elfickes, although the script in these years is not easy to decipher.
I have tested several names with the new familysearch pilot record scheme and Wittersham does seem to be covered back to these early days.
I have had a look around in other nearby parishes and there are Ethericks in new Romney , two families in fact but did not see a Richard.
Sorry I have not been of any help.

Also, I am sorry if you already know this but if you go into familysearch.org click on library put in new Zealand up will come a list of Family History Centres.
If you live within a few hours of one of these you can order the film of any parish you need. Each film will cost £7.50 and you have the use of it for 3 months.
All this you now do on line on the film ordering part.
In  Greece I live 5 hours from my nearest FHC and they have told me they would send the films TO me!!. But of course I would have to buy a film reader???
These Centres are really good and very helpful.
Hope this helps
