skype. question
« on: Thursday 10 June 10 12:38 BST (UK) »
I would be interested to know if anyone uses Skype. Is it worth while installing or not. Free video calls would be interesting but is it used universally or is it very limited.
Thank you for any advice.  Jake01. ???

I use Skype all the time. I make all my telephone calls with it. However, I don't make video calls.

Even phoning someone who doesn't have Skype works out much cheaper for me than using a telco.........

I have Skype, but tend to use it more for instant messaging than for phone calls.  My brother-in-law (even more of a technophobe that my OH!) has just installed Skype, and is quite rapt - he can talk to his brother-in-law in New Zealand, for a fraction of what ordinary international calls cost ... and they can see each other.

I tend to leave the camera turned off LOL.
I live in Sydney, Australia, and I'm researching: Powell, Tatham, Dunbar, Dixon, Mackwood, Kinnear, Mitchell, Morgan, Delves, & Anderson

I also have been using Skype for many years - I have a son in France and one in Aus - I'm in the UK - so long phone calls are possible for free, definitely well worth it.  I have used it for 'landline calls' but since I changed my phone provider I get free call after 6:00 pm so tend to make my calle then.
I've only just got a web-cam but have talked to one of my Grandsons using it which is wonderful and I've talked to my son in Aus whilst he's had it - makes one feel chill when he's sitting there without shirt and there's snow outside here !!!

I live away from most of my family, so use it all the time. Free calls to anywhere in the world - and you get to see who you're talking to too! Also use MSN for the same reason. The world ain't as big as it used to be  ;)

We use Skype to talk to my son and his daughter in USA, it's free and we can see each other.  Go for it I'd say.

We have Skype, it's very good and you do not have to clock watch to ring family and friends. We live in Spain and our calls are to Scotland, so we save a lot of money, also if the person you call has Skype it's free, love a freebie. Using the web cam is brilliant too.

Hi,

My family use Skype a lot; it meant that my dad (85 years) in the UK could see his gt.grandson (5 days) in Australia.

It means I can keep in touch with a son in Canada and see his little daughter growing up.     :D

Easy to install and use.
