I was going to have another look at the passenger lists but everyone's been using the  free access  :(

I didn't see a promising James Flower*/alts when I looked before.

Also, why did she say she was a widow on the 1891?

Think I'll go back to Ingerland  ;D

If she hadn't married but had 2 young children then she might well have told the enumerator she was a widow?

I'd like to see those birth certs!

I've not found any prospective James Flower, b.c. 1855, so far. Just wondering if any of the Australian records have an occupation for him and when his name first appeared in the records for Charles and May.

I'll try to have another search for them travelling as Stride as soon as I'm able!

Added - now looked on various sources and don't see them as Stride  :-\

Charles Lewis' 1919 marriage certificate shows father as James Fowler and I think regarding occupation it states 'unknown' (image not great, hard to be certain  :-\). Doesn't bode well for the searches on him.

There is also an image for May's school certificate in St Kilda in 1893 under the name of Fowler, so migration between 1891 census date and 1893.

I wonder if Scraps has been able to find the shipping manifest entry given the name of the ship has been quoted?

I just found another thread that seems to be about the same family of Strides, or more particularly Sophie's parents:

I've just been having a good look at the photos  (Ctrl + is good for enlarging) and I now think that the wedding photo could be Charles and his wife (1919). I think the clothing might fit  - off to do some more checks

I think you may be right Gadget. There is a photo of Charles much older with two ladies...looks mighty like the groom in the wedding photos, just aged.
