Suffolk marriage 1820s
« on: Sunday 13 June 10 13:46 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to trace a marriage between Caroline Wright (born 1806) St Clements Ipswich and Carrington Ralph (born 1795) Bentley, Suffolk. Their first child was born 1829. Please, does anyone have any info?

I'm afraid this marriage isn't showing on the Suffolk Marriage Index 1813-1837.   :'(

Looks like they were both dead before the 1851 census. May I ask how you found out where they were born, just out of curiosity?

thank you for your interest - my great grandmother Erwina Ralph was born in Ipswich in 1835 having an elder sister Eisebelah born in 1829 and a brother Carrington  born in 1833 - both in Cambridge. On each baptism both parents are listed but I have since found out that the father Carrington died in Cambridge in 1834. The mother and the two younger children were shown on the 1841 census in Union Workhouse in St Peters Ipswich The eldest daughter was living with her aunt.  the mother died in Union Workhouse in 1848. I had assumed that the marriage took place in Suffolk but obviously must look elsewhere. The occupation of the father was Cordwainer which I believe is similar to Shoemaker and there were many leather manufacturers in East Anglia.

Its possible the marriage could have taken place outside of Suffolk, but it could also be that they didn't marry at all.
As they were in Cambridgeshire I checked Boyds marriage index and it wasn't showing there either and Cambridgeshire is one of the better counties covered.
