Death - WILSON
« on: Monday 14 June 10 23:02 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I am clutching at straws a bit here, but nothing ventured nothing gained.  :)

Family lore has it that a great uncle died as a child, presumed drowned. He (I think it may be a male) would have been born around 1913 ish so he/she wont turn up for a few years yet on the BDM.

I would like to know if a WILSON child turns up on the burial locator for the PALMERSTON, OTAGO area, around the years 1914 - 1919.

I did notice on the BDM that a Ian Claude WILSON died 1916 age 3.

All help gratefully recieved  :)

Kind regards,

Gail.

Hi Gail,

I had a quick look at the burial locator, I didn't see any boys that fit for Palmerston, there is Arthur Harvery Wilson died 1914 age 20 mths Dunedin, lots of children at that time period buried in Winton-could that be a possibility, its Southland rather than Otago though.  The burial locator doesn't have all people on it, maybe checking the online cemeteries might help.

Hi Leandra,

Thanks for the info. I'm fairly sure  he would have been buried in Palmerston as they lived in Shag Point, and the parents (William and Esther) are both buried there. I guess Oamaru may even be an option.

I am not very patient,   :) and I dont want to purchase a cert when I am not even very sure of a christian name. I thought the child named Ivan (I just noticed I put Ian) Claude might be my best bet as Claude was Esthers brothers name and Ivan is a name that has popped up further down the generations.

I will keep hoping that some more info will come to light  :)

Regards,

Gail.

Deaths from 80 years ago appear on BDM Historical -  even a birth for a child aged three in 1913 should be there as that would indicate a birth in 1910 -  100 years ago. Worth a try

Also try Papers Past -  a drowning is often of interest to the newspapers

Hi Gail,

There is a couple of children buried at Oamaru, not sure if that cem is online. Would there have been an inquest? I don't see Ivan Claude on the burial locator.

Ivan Claude is the only death that fits with the newspaper article facts.
