Well, I think it's a McG, comparing it to the witness' name which I think is
Gillmour.
The next letter doesn't appear to be anything but an 'a'.
The one after looks to be in the same form as the 'm' in William.
Last two look to match the 'on' in Patterson.

Conclusion: McGamon.

Pauline

To my poor ageing eyes, it looks like

I agree, but it'd most likely be McGowan.

The w or m debate is tough - as a name McGowan seems most likely.  But look at the m in Cumberland it looks very similar but the w in twenty is close!  Hmmm... ???

Thanks for the help everyone  :)

This might be stretching things a bit but I have just found
~~~~~~~~-
AGNES MC GOWAN
     Female
   Christening:
10 JUN 1798      James Street-Scotch Presbyterian, Whitehaven, Cumberland, England
Parents:
     Father:     GEORGE MC GOWAN
     Mother:     AGNES
~~~~~~~~--

Could Rodger McGawon be George McGowan ?
They sound very similar

Thanks
Jim

Hi Jim,

You can class me as the odd one out.
I think it's McGAURAN.

Cheers
Geoff

I'd agree with Geoff.

The name is McGauran (although the registrar appears to have entered it as McGauron!)

Try a 'Search for Ancestors' on:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

...just type in the Surname 'McGauran'.

There are no Rodger's or Margaret's, but you may find other forenames you recognise.

There are about 38 people listed in the British Isles IGI. The majority of them originated in Ireland.

Hope that helps.
