Hi Tootsiepie
Good to hear from you again.
As I got out my records to reply to mcjames, and I'm still sat at the computer! no probs about the Cochrans.
Millar Nicol had a granddaughter Margaret (her father was James who married an Elizabeth Paton - now there's a family who are one of my brick walls!).
Margaret married James Cochran 14 June 1878 at Paisley. James Cochran was my great grandfather, and in fact my mother still had Nicol as one of her names. And I called my daughter Nicola - funny how these things carry on.
James Cochran's father was Michael Cochran, as were the next two generations back - they were handloom weavers from Darvel, Ayrshire originally. Michael (the middle one of the three Michaels), was the one to move his family to the 'big city' of Paisley about 1830.
Don't know if this ties in with your Cochrans (still sometimes written Cochrane in registers), and I have JUST come across the obit for my grandmother who died in 1939, and everyone was shocked to see the name spelt Cochrane with an 'e'!
My visit to Scotland is mostly to look round the Cochran roots in Ayrshire and Paisley.
Cheers
Goldie
