William FAWCETT abt 1784
« on: Sunday 20 June 10 13:08 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am looking to go further back than William born 1784, William and Martha lived at, The Bar Richmond

I have found that they had 3 boys

James 1807 John 1809 and William 1812

The census records all say they are born richmond but i am having trouble going any further back in richmond.

there is this marriage for a william fawcett and a martha which is not too far away and close to the birth of their first child

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=recordimage&c=fs:1473015&r=r_854170586&pn=p4

and i also found this birth record for a william fawcett in the same town

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=recordimage&c=fs:1473014&r=r_890636958&pn=p1

But am i going off track?

any ideas??

Hi nichol,

This has got me wondering when you ask whether or not you've gone off track - I'm not sure you do have the correct birth and parents of William Fawcett in Patrick Brompton.

The 1851 census has another William Fawcett, born Patrick Brompton in 1787, listed as visiting with his wife Rachael, in Thirsk. I can't help but think the birth you've posted the link for could also be him ?

If that's the case, this may be the marriage of the one visiting in Thirsk :

Marriage, 1st February 1808
William Fawcett
Rachael Kirby
Patrick Brompton.

More questions than answers I'm afraid.

Kind regards

Pels.

Hi Pels,

My link that to william is his son James born 1807 who married Sarah Idle, From that i found the census which had James living at The Bar in 1841 with William living a few doors down with his wife Martha.

so i am hoping that i am right so far ???

But with you saying there is another William Fawcett i guess unless someone has their full marriage cirt i wont be able to see who the father was to know if the birth i found was correct or not?

Do you have Parish records for this area?

Thank you for replying to my post.  ;D

Hi again, :)

I'm not doubting your census info or the marriage, it's the birth I'm not convinced about - especially with William claiming to be born in Richmond.

Just had another look, have you considered this one for your William, b.1784 :

Christening : William Faucet
10th October 1784
Richmond, nr Leyburn
Father : James Faucet.

Will have to go to bed now, unless someone else can find a better match, I'll have another look tomorrow.

Are you using Family search?

Like you I used the Pilot Search which for this area has come on in leaps and bounds, then rechecked the old style Family Search - it does have a batch number, so therefore isn't member submitted .. but again I can't swear it's the right one.

Have to say it looks more likely than the Patrick Brompton birth. Have you seen a possible christening for Martha in Saint Agatha's, Gilling West - I'd be quietly confident that's the right one.

Hi Nicol

I think you are on the right track. Wiliam and Martha lived at the Bar in 1841.
His son James married Safrah iIdle and lived in the market place in 1851. They had

Sophia (who had daughter Emily  who had daughter Jessie - my grandmother)
Martha
James
William
Elizabeth
Sarah
Margaret
Henrietta
John

I am trying to find out info about Sarah Idle and her parents. Or any photographs.😀
