WHERE IS ROXWELL IN RELATION TO DENBURY PLEASE?
« on: Tuesday 29 March 05 15:17 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please help me. On 1851 census my ancestor JAMES LITTLE's place of birth was given as Denbury and his age was given as 55yrs. I have been told that Denbury is in Essex & looking on LDS site there is a James Little, born Roxwell around that time.  Can anyone confirm that Denbury is in Essex please and whether Roxwell is in the vicinity.

Hi

The only Denbury I can find is in Devon, but there is a Danbury about 5 miles east of Chelmsford and Roxwell ant 4 miles to the west. By modern roads just over 10 miles apart

Hope this helps

I agree with Lacie

Roxwell is to the west of Chelmsford and Danbury to the east....about 6 to 8 miles apart as the crow flies

1841
HO107/325 is Danbury
HO107/326 is Roxwell

However...Runsell is a parish of Danbury!
Researching names BRYANT (Camberwell), PASTERFIELD (Essex and all), RAY (Holborn/Islington areas back to Brentford), POWELL (Glouc & beyond?)
Fletcher (Glouc into Warwickshie into Lancs?), BUCKLEY (Chatham area), Watson (Chatham area).

Where was James Little in 1851?

He isn't in Danbury in 1841.....no Little families at all
half of the census is written by a Doctor and the other half by someone with the foresight to know that someone might wish to read what he has written someday.

Thank-you both for replying to my posting. As I said previously on 1851 census his birthplace is Denbury. He married Sarah Fry in 1818 and moved to Chippenham. There is absolutely no sign of this couple after 1851 but looking on BMD there are 3 deaths for James Little (Chippenham) & 3 for Sarah Little between 1851-1861, so I must assume that they both died. All my research for the Little family has been around Chippenham area, so I was surprised to see Denbury on census whether this was a spelling error or not and it should have been Danbury I'll probably never know.

Thank-you both for your interest,
Christine
