Laslett family of Kent
« on: Wednesday 23 June 10 01:00 BST (UK) »
I am researching the Laslett family of Kent.

George Laslett b 1897 Forest Hill, London (siblings Edith, Winifred and Eleanor)

His father George Laslett b 1868 Herne Bay (siblings Elizabeth, Annie and Robert) married Catherine Newman

His father George Laslett b 1845 Ash, Kent (siblings William, Thomas and Frederick) married Jane

His father Thomas Laslett b 1806 Canterbury, Kent, a carpenter married Sarah

Any clues gratefully received

Thanks

Karen

Have you got George Laslett marrying Jane Ratcliffe in Woodnesborough 1866?

There are so many Lasletts! I started this project for a friend, thinking Laslett is an unusual name in Ireland.  Little did I know that her family was English, there are hundreds of Laslett's, all with the same christian name and all from one tiny area!

But I answer to your question, yes, I think I do

Hello Karen,

We have a family member named Mary Ellen Laslett who married a Edward Henry Belsey in Deal, Kent. Do you have this person on your tree?
Would be pleased to hear from you.

Kind regards,

Hello bon62,

Edward Henry Belsey & May (not Mary) Ellen Laslett were married at Dover Register Office on 23-11-1901. They went to Canada in 1906 and lived in  Ontario.  We think between 1907 & 1911 he left her and married Violet.  We know that May also remarried but cannot find a marriage in Canada and therefore no death date.  You have Edward & Violet dying on the same day is this correct?
Regards, Judy

The Ozzie cousin here,
Found Violet Elizabeth Harvey, born in Greenwich London, Married Edward Henry in UK Dec Qtr 1917 , travelled back to Halifax on 14 Nov 1917 aboard The Olympic. The passenger list states she was travelling with her husband - soldier - so Edward must have joined up after leaving May Ellen. Still putting the details together

If he's the Edward Henry BELSEY born Dover (25 Apr 1880) then he says he's unmarried when he enlists in the CEF 3 Sep  1915 giving his sister as next of kin ;)

I couldn't see a divorce in the UK
