thomson information
« on: Wednesday 23 June 10 01:55 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone,

I am searching for information on the Thomson family who resided in Glasgow. James Thomson was a bookbinder and had a shop in John Street. His son Alexander came to Australia in 1852.
Is there anyone out there who may be related to the family.
Alexander had brothers, Archibald and John and a sister Helen who married a McMillian.

Hi terryt and welcome to rootschat :)

If you are able to give some birth, marraige and death dates for those you list it would help RCers decide if they have matches.

Good hunting,

charlotte

this looks like the family in 1851c:
James Thomson
Age: 50
Estimated birth year: abt 1801
Spouse's name: Janet
Where born: Glasgow, Lanark
Glasgow St David
Address: 45 John Street
Occupation: Bookbinder

James Thomson 50
Janet Thomson 50
Helen Thomson 28
Alexander Thomson 70
Isabella Martin 25

think Alex birth will be a transcription error -will try to check on SP.

this is James with family in John Street,1841:

James Thomson 40
Janet Thomson 40
Helen Thomson 15
Nick Thomson 15 ?
John Thomson 15
Alex Thomson 11
Janet Bell 15

record is very diff to read and A* has Alex as Hannie but clearly Alex on SP. Nick looks like Arch on SP listed as a bookbinder too.
