Bel Air hospital Bordeaux,McCormick S Carolina
« on: Thursday 24 June 10 17:34 BST (UK) »
This is a long shot I know, but I have just received the death certificate for my grandfather, DAVID ROBERT BAXTER which states that he died in Hospital Bel Air, Bordeaux on 17th June 1924. He was a seaman & died after falling on board ship.
I have looked in vain for this hospital in Bordeaux, France - but on looking on Ancestry one of the hints they give is from an Ancestry family tree which gives the name David Robert Baxter, died 17th June 1924 Bordeaux, McCormick, South Carolina, United States.
Surely this is too much of a co-incidence for it NOT to be my grandfather isn't it?
Unfortunately I don't have a subscription to Ancestry so cannot see any other info or contact the tree owner.
Does anyone know whether Hospital Bel Air is or was in this Bordeaux? and if it is, any idea what cemetery he would be buried in?
Any help appreciated
thanks
Annie

David Robert Baxter Born 7 Sept 1869 Boulby Bank, Whitby, North Yorkshire, England.
Married Margaret Jane Johnston 27 Sept 1903 Sunderland.
Died Hospital Bel Air, Bordeaux. Fell on ship and fractured skull

If you send me a personal message with your e-mail address, I can ask the owner to contact you. None of the trees mention South Carolina, sometimes it is a little idiosyncrasy with anc.. try that it throws up things like that.  ???

Bordeaux, SC, appears to be a small town some way inland, not likely for a man who fell on board ship.

There is an "avenue Bel-Air" in Bordeaux, this place:
http://www.urologie-bordeaux.com/
is basically right there, and may be where the hospital in question used to be.

If his death was also registered with the French authorities you may be able to get a copy from the Mairie (town hall) of Bordeaux.

There is a "Cimetière Protestant" at 193 Rue Judaique, not sure if it was around in 1924 but might be something to check.

dettori28,
I think the tree owner is me!! Those are the exact words on it.
Why on earth Anc***ry should give me a hint about my own tree and stick extra wrong info on I dont know.  ::)

jorose,
thanks for that. had a quick look at the links and both sites are in French, so will have to try & translate the pages (and hope someone there speaks English!)
