James Beatty
« on: Saturday 26 June 10 22:31 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
I'm hoping some of you guys can wave your magic genealogical wands and help out with this one...

I'm looking for JAMES BEATTY
Born:?
Married: Annie Finnegan between 1900 and 1902
Children: Teresa (b.1903)/ Annie (b.1906)/ Mary (b.1908) / Mystery Son (b.????)
He abandoned his wife and daughters sometime after 1908 and before 1911 as he is not on the census and it fits in with timeline from family sources...he took his son with him (possibly to America but no one knows for sure)

I know tracing his 'escape' would be nearly impossible but I'm wondering if anyone can help fill blanks about his early life...early in his marriage they lived in Erne Street and his wife lived in Temple Bar during the 1911 census...any tips of how to progress from this point would be great...

Thanks in advance guys...

Do you have any civil birth certs for the children... if so what was the occupation for James ?

p.s. based on the 1911 census it does not look like there are any children missing - four born, two still alive, and both these are with their mother

Hi shane this story is a bit of a twisted one altogether....

She claims 4 born and 2 living.... it was 4 born alright but the son was taken and teresa beatty was staying in Galway with the Brady family at the time of the census. She still declares herself as married but there were definitely 4 children ALIVE at this time.

When she was dying the Salvation Army asked her would she like them to trace her son...she said no because he wouldnt remember who she was.

I had a look at the Ellis Island website to check if there was any sign of a James Beatty and son arriving in the US around the right time.. but nothing that seemed to fit ...

Ok I've had a break away from my mysterious great great grandfather and spent my time harassing distant relations for any info they may have so I have some extra info to add on...

His name was James Oliver Beatty/Beattie and his grandson confirmed for me that a son, Edward, either left with him or was taken by him. He apparently didn't leave Ireland and possibly not even Dublin as he worked in guinnesses in the 1920's. I got onto their archives who gave me info on two possible James beatty's!!

You guys are amazing so I'm hoping you can add-on some more for me.
