Ernest William Fraser
« on: Sunday 27 June 10 20:24 BST (UK) »
Hi
I wonder if anyone can help me with this one.

I have an ancestor, Ernest William Fraser, born in Stockton on Tees in 1883, his father was William Jackson Fraser and his mum Emma Jane Fawcett.  Emma died and William and the family moved to Denton, in Lancashire.  Family members tell me that Ernest returned to Durham where he joined the Merchant Navy.  In 1914 he married Catherine G Porteous in Southshields and had a son, Ernest William in 1916.

Ernest jnr also joined the Merchant Navy and was killed during WW11 on the Creekirk which was sank in Australian waters in 1940.

However,  I have found a birth of a son, Ronald Gordon to Ernest snr and Catherine in 1930, in Ashton Under Line.  I know that Ernest returned to live in Denton and that he and his wife divorced.  This seems odd and I can't understand it, especially as the Ronald I am talking about is the actor, but my family member says that Ernest would have let everyone know this fact.

I would appreciate it if anyone can shine a light on this.

Many thanks

Nothing seems to be known about Ronald's early life.
I guess that the only way to know for sure would be to get a copy of his birth cert.
