Billington family of Somerton
« on: Tuesday 29 June 10 03:37 BST (UK) »
Hi, can anyone help me out with a Mary Billington, born Somerton around 1791, based on her 1851 census return.

She married William Nicholls in 1824, Barford, Oxfordshire.

In the 1851 census she had a visitor, Charles Billington, born about 1815, Somerton.    He could be a nephew, cousin, or if there was a large family, even a younger brother?

Regards, sgc

Hi Linda,

I'd love a baptism if anyone has one, for a Mary Billington born around 1791 in Somerton, or even any BDM information on the Billingtons of Somerton.  From the 1841 and 1851 census returns, there are some Billington males there still, mostly ag lab types.  I'd love to put together Mary's family for her.

Regards, sgc

Hi sgc,
Checking the Somerton PR's the first Mary BILLINGTON in the baptisms is
31 May 1801 d/.o Thomas & Phyliss.
To date there are some 37 baptisms; 8 Marriages & 16 burials showing in the registers.
If you want these I think it would be better to send you a PM with them rather than clutter up this site with a couple of pages of info.
Up to you.
 George.

Thanks George for your generous offer,

Anything would be a help!  There is also Charles' baptism around 1815 to find as well.  I'm truly stuck on this branch of the tree!

regards,

Stephanie

Hi there Stephanie,
I have tried to put these families into their respective date order as a couple of the marriages took place outside the parish of Somerton and I was fortunate to find them in the Oxfordshire Marriages Index which I also possess, I am going to send them in small groups remembering some problems I have had in the past with large batches on this site, so you will receive a number of PM's over the next few hours. Here we go then -

5 March 1771. XBILLINGTON, William.
                       XKNIBBS, Sarah.
 Wit. Richard MANDER, XJohn CASTLE.

Childen.
19 Apr 1772. BILLINGTON, Thomas, s William & Sarah.
31 Oct 1773.        "             Sarah,   d      "              "
25 Feb 1776.        "            William.  s      "              "
14 Jun 1778.        "             John,     s      "              "
4   Feb 1781.       "             Elizabeth, d   "              "
13 Mar 1785.        "            Joseph, s       "              " (aged 1 day) (NIBBS)
7 Sep 1788.          "            James.  s       "              " (     " 11 days)

2 Nov 1795.         "            Liddie     d    Sarah.

End of first batch.
Cheers,
George.
