King Street, Swansea - Completed - Thank you!
« on: Tuesday 29 June 10 14:40 BST (UK) »
Hi  :)

In 1851, my ancestors were living in King Street, Swansea, but I cannot find this road on maps.

There are, however, two roads with similar names: a Kings Road and a Kings Lane.

I tried to find nearby streets to King Street on the census. To one end there are courts and then the High Street. On the other end is Pleasant Street.

From modern maps, it does look as if Kings Lane could be the one, but it seems that this used to be Old Morris Street.

Perhaps it has gone completely, or is now an un-named pathway through an industrial area.

Does anyone have any ideas please?
Thanks :)

I have a copy of the 1906 Swansea map which shows Kings Street following southwards from Pleasant Street and leading into Morris Lane - hope that this helps :)

Hello Wexdor. Thank you very much! :)
Thanks for clearing that up!
Yes, that seems to confirm my thoughts, that King Street is now the path I found on Google maps, in what looks like an industrial / commercial 'park'.
It was very kind of you to look that up and much appreciated! :)  :)
