Help Please - Ellen Walsh b. 1886
« on: Friday 02 July 10 22:19 BST (UK) »
Trying to trace the birth and subsequent marriage ? /death of my relative.

Ellen Walsh b 1886 - shown as age 15 years in th 1901 census.
Her father is Michael Walsh b 1861 and her mother Margaret nee O'brien born approx 1861.
She was born is Lismore and her closest brother martin born in 1887, his birth is recorded in the Whitechurch records.

I have looked on Family Search site but there are too many registerd without parents detials to work out which one it might be ?

If Ellen was born in the Lismore area, and her birth was registered, then the best way to narrow down the possible births is by checking the registration district on the BMD index. The town of Lismore is in the centre on the registration district of the same name. Details on parents will only be included on the birth certs, not the index.

It's could be very difficult to locate her marriage without some details on who she married, or where ..

p.s have you located Ellen and/or her parents on the 1911 census ?

Ellen's parents and siblings seem to have moved by the time of the 1911 census, as there are no Walsh families listed in the townland then - see : Ballysaggart Beg hill, 1911. One of the new 1911 listings in the townland is a Nugent family comprising husband Michael and his new wife Ellen and 1 month old son.... could be worth following up in case it's the same Ellen..

for ref : Walsh family on 1901 census
Nugent Family, Ballysaggartbeg Hill 1911

update :

found a possible marriage for the Michael & Ellen located in the townland of Ballysaggartbeg Hill on the 1911 census, but unfortunately her maiden surname is not Walsh.. these are the details :

 Name: Michael Nugent / Lismore / Apr-Jun 1910 / v4-p362
  Ellen Sanders [same details]

At least it's an Ellen you can eliminate.

Many many thanks with this as I am really struggling.
On the 1911 census the rest of the Walsh Family have moved to 46 New Street Lismore.  Unfortunately Eleen is not with them.

I did check births on Family search index unfortunatel there are i think 12 for that year and nothing gives me a clue as to who is her.

...

are all these in the Registration District of Lismore ?

I had a quick look and didn't see that many...

You will also have to allow a year or two (at least) either way for year of birth. Ages given on the census were often not 100% accurate.

Link to the latest version of the Irish Civil BMD Index on familysearch. To get the best results from the search enter the name and a year range but no location or county. Do the search then filter the results by county (top left of the screen)

The other point to remember is that even if Ellen's age on the census is accurate, then to you would need to know the date of her  birthday calculate her true year of birth - so I'd check a year either way when searching.

Thanks for that.  Now got the right link.  There are quite a few ellens but of course as her parents who I know are not shown I think the only way I'm going to trace her is by contacting the registry office in Dungarvan.  Am I right.?
