1861 Census - Jersey BOWDEN
« on: Wednesday 30 March 05 14:37 BST (UK) »
My great grandfather, Orlando John Bowden was born 1852 Little Peter Street, St Helier.  He appears to have been the third child of John and Edith Bowden. The 1851 census (checked some years ago) shows this couple with two other children Horatio aged 2 and Caroline aged 6 months. If it is possible to check the 1861 census to see if any of them are there, I would be grateful.  Father John seems to have been born in Jersey, but mother Edith was from Cornwall.

Many thanks

Thanks for that Nicky!!

Edith may well have died - John had remarried on the 1881 census, and his daughter with his new wife seems to have been born c1869.  Maybe he left Jersey because his wife had died - maybe I just want that to fit ....!!!

Thanks for the information - I appreciate it!

No further connection to the Channel Islands - at least, I don't think so - thanks for the interest!
