Henry S. Minchinton - DEATH?
« on: Sunday 04 July 10 19:56 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Can anyone help me find a death record for Henry S. Minchinton, born Stalbridge 1827? I think he died c. 1870.

There is no entry for him on the Free BMD site and he is not buried in Stalbridge.

Complications : Variant spelling 'MinchinGton'
Also, there is another Henry Minchington born c. 1823 nr. Yeovil in Somerset. He died in 1869 aged 46 in Yeovil District. This is not 'my' Henry!

Hopefully I'm missing something obvious??

Any help/ advice greatly appreciated.

Hello Bilge,
Thank you for looking this up for me.
This Henry S. Minchinton is 'my' Henry's grandson - the Sarah in the census entry was his daughter.
The S stands for Sansom and I suppose he must have been named after his grandfather (although my Henry's second name usually appears as Samson not Sansom).
Sadly, Henry jnr. died later in 1881 aged 3years.

I can follow my Henry right up to the 1861 census where he appears in Stalbridge with his wife Maria and children (including Sarah).
Mysteriously, his details are crossed out and 'absent' written above the entry.
I have never been able to find an alternative 1861 entry, nor any death record.

Thats weird as I have a found a Minchinton family on the 1861 living in Milbourne Port, Dorset/Somerset depending when you look.

The house next door is named Sanson's Hill.

That's so interesting ... the name Samson with variants is a recurring one in the family - Henry Samson Minchinton's son (from whom I'm descended) was called Samson and I've often wondered what the significance was.
I'll look for Milboune Port connections...
Thank you so much!

Hi WexDor,

I don't know - but quite possibly!

My Minchintons left Dorset for South Wales around the turn of the (last) century and ended up in Barry (Glamorganshire).
