Death look up request *COMPLETED*
« on: Tuesday 06 July 10 06:32 BST (UK) »
Hi

Could anyone help with a look up for a death certificate, please:

Name: William Gadsby
Date of Death in New Zealand :
1938/24233

 Age: 86Y

Trying to work out if this is a missing relative born circa 1855 in Victoria, Australia to William and Sophia Gadsby.

Do not know of any marriage details or children of the 86 year old.

Thanks
Summit

Hi Summit,

We can't 'look up' a death certificate, I wish we could! You would have to order it from NZ BMD. Perhaps a death notice though.
There is a marrige for  a William Gadsby in 1893.

Hi Summit,

Once you have obtained the death certificate and have a death date then a look up for the death notice can be done.

Cheers

Good one Leandra.

Summit, I myself just found two of mine buried in that cemetery.  The notices should be in the Daily News.

Maybe if you modified your title to include "Taranaki" as we do have some RCer's down that way.

Cheers

There is a headstone at Patea according to Cemetery Fiche, but no dates, only "To the memory of Jane and William Gadsby"

BDM site has a number of children with parents William and Jane from 1880 to 1887. Looks like Jane died in 1891 aged 38. No marriage in NZ for a William to Jane, but there is a Marriage in 1893 for a William to an Elsie SOUTER, possibly a second wife.

A few marriage notices of children on Paperspast. Also about the death of Jane in late December 1891. They had seven children four sons and three daughters

Looks like Jane is buried at Patea as well.

Many thanks for the replies.
I did find  William Gadsby mentioned in the Patea cemetery index.

Re "Daily News" - does it have a name in front of Daily News, please?

Thanks again for all the help.

Hi Summit,

A far as  I know it is just the "Daily News".    I got my death notices through email yesterday from the Alexander Turnbull Library.

http://www.natlib.govt.nz/services/get-advice/ask-a-librarian

If you want to use this instead of getting a lookup, give them the name of the deceased, death date, the paper you think it was in, along with your snail addy, in case they send it that way.

Cheers
