Murrray emmigrants from Westmeath to St. Louis Missouri
« on: Tuesday 06 July 10 10:20 BST (UK) »
Very long shot as I have no  first names or verifiable dates of these Murrays who left Ireland My grandmother, Elizabeth Coyle (d.1968 aged 87) Walsh corresponded with relatives of her mother, Catherine Coyle, nee Murray, in St. Louis Missouri  from at least 1907 until probably 1930. Catherine Murray was born c.1860 at Bennetstown, Portloman, near Multyfarnham Westmeath. Her father was James Murray, farmer of Bennetstown,  Multyfarnham. He was probably born c.1840. The Murray who went to Missouri was possibly married to a Darcy. Catherine lived in Lacken Leny Multyfarnham after her marriage to Thomas Coyle. There were a James and Mary Murray living in Walshestown Westmeath in the first half of the last century who would have been cousins of the people who left Ireland for St. Louis.

Any ideas on how to find these Murrays?

Thank you.

Many thanks for that! I'll see how it fits in with my Darcys. The original one, Richard, was French, from Normandy, and worked on the De Blacquerie estate at Portloman. He was brought to Ireland before 1800 because his mother had been widowed in Normandy.

Best, P
