Constance CLARKE 1873-1972 Eastbourne
« on: Wednesday 07 July 10 09:31 BST (UK) »
Has anyone come across anything about Constance Clarissa Brooking CLARKE. She was born in Boxted, Essex, on 16 Jan 1873, youngest of eighteen children of the Reverend Beaumaurice Stracey CLARKE and Georgiana nee BROOKING.

In her adult life she lived mostly with her oldest surviving brother William Walpole CLARKE, in Hertfordshire and Essex. When he died, sometime around 1937 we think she moved to Eastbourne with at least two of her nieces, daughters of WWC, namely Ethel Mary and Florence Muriel CLARKE. They lived at 8 Blackwater Road, Eastbourne. WWC's wife was Emily, and she may have gone to Eastbourne as well.

Ethel, who for some reason was known as Isla, came to New Zealand in 1956 for a visit, arriving back in London from Sydney in December. She was due to come out again in 1959, but died.

Constance CLARKE died on 2 Jul 1972, six months off her one hundredth birthday. Florence Muriel died in 1975.

Hi
42 Enys Road is now a nursing home, unable to find a website for you to look at.
Large houses in this road, now either nursing homes, doctors surgeries, or converted into
flats....

Looking at the London Gazette advanced search using the exact phrase 42 Enys Road several deaths around that time were referenced at that same address, in Eastbourne, which suggests it is very likely it was a private care home then.

Thanks

I had a feeling it may have been a nursing home.
