John Cannon , keswick
« on: Thursday 08 July 10 21:22 BST (UK) »
Hi
I was wondering if anyone knows an address for where John Cannon was born in the Keswick area around 1825. Was there many Cannons in the Keswick area in the early 1800's , Johns father is thought to have moved into the area from Elterwater , Westmorland
This John was at Grasmere in 1881 at the red lion  but we dont know his whereabouts at earlier census's .He had a sister called Elizabeth who married a Edward Atkinson but she died aged 21 without any family.

His father was probably called William Cannon

Also a John Potts adopted son of James Cannon of Borrowdale Head , Fawcett Forest , Westmorland born about 1830 mother was probably Isabella who was born at Ulverston , Lancs but John Potts was probably born near Keswick , Cumberland .

IGI coverage of Keswick is limited however a check of nearby parishes might assist. On Ancestry there are a couple of trees you might find helpful.

that is not  my right couple  my John Cannon was born around 1822 and his father was definitely called William
i've found  the couple married in 1853 living at Chapel Field , Borrowdale in 1881 .
but i think sarah cannon born in 1857 is correct

Hi

Just a couple of questions if I may.

How do you know for definite that John's father was called William?

When did his sister Elizabeth die?

it was in a letter regarding his uncle James  and Henrys will  in the cumbria archives from John to the exors in 1880.
his sister died at the age of 21 but i don't know the year of birth but it would be before 1837 so i'd need to find parish records for their births .

Ok thank you.

When did Elizabeth die as there is an Edward Atkinson living with a John Cannon and wife Ann in the 1841 census.

Maybe just a co-incidence?
