DOBB marriage & burials
« on: Wednesday 14 July 10 03:30 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for two things for John DOBB and his wife Hannah COTTERILL.

They married Dec qtr. 1837, Mansfield reg. dist. - I was wondering if anyone could spot if the marriage occurred at Pinxton or perhaps Riddings?

Also, I'm looking for a couple of burials for their children. I would have thought they would be buried at Ironville or Riddings.
- Matilda DOBB, d. 1856 age 2
- (possible) twin sons John & Samuel DOBB, both d. 1855/6, age 0

I'm not positive if the twins are John and Hannah's children, but they would fill in the big gap between Matilda's birth and their next son - and the names John and Samuel are seen a lot in the family.

Thanks,
Alexander

Hello Alexander & Hi Carol..... :)

Have you tried the pilot familysearch?

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start

There are no Dobb marriages at Ironville but you will find your answers to the baptism & burials - I usually choose "search or browse collection"  then choose Europe.
Then from there whichever countries birth; marriage or burials........in the location box type Ironville and from the choices - Ironville, Derbyshire, England, United Kingdom.

Happy Hunting
Sheila.

Hi Carol & Sheila,

Thanks, I had tried the IGI but had not checked the pilot site, so had missed a few baptisms of John and Hannah's children. All the burials I was looking for are on there too.

I expect the marriage would have been at Riddings now that Carol has eliminated Pinxton.

Thanks,
Alexander

Hello....

I had looked for the marriage for you but didn't come up with anything.

I have just thought to look at the Derbyshire registrars index on Findmypast and that has the marriage taking place between John Dobb and Hannah Cotterill in 1837 at  St.Werburgh, Blackwell, Derbyshire. (no actual dates given - only place and year)

The IGI gives the coverage of marriages for Blackwell as 1813 - 1837 but doesn't appear to go far enough to include their marriage.

Hi Sheila,

Thanks for looking for that marriage. I'm sure the marriage at Blackwell is the right one, it's not far from Pinxton (Hannah's home parish). I will have to investigate that one further, it should record John's father to confirm I've got the right couple.

Thanks so much for your help Sheila!

Alexander  :)
