Jersey Land Registry?
« on: Thursday 15 July 10 17:27 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Is there a Jersey land registry for the mid 18th century?  And if so how can I get a lookup completed remotely (I'm in Canada and cannot get to Jersey)?

I have a letter that reads in part:

" Whereas Saml. Gasnoy has Presented me a Petition seting fourth
That you Ordered his Dwelling House situate in Carbonear to be Burnt
Down in the year 1755 or 56 while he was in Jersey.  And that you fined
him £5 in the year 1758 for not attending a Court Held by you whon he had
no Notice thereof.  And Prays Redrefs for thes amo."

I'd like to learn more about Saml. Gasnoy, and I'm thinking if he had property in Carbonear (Newfoundland), he might have had property in Jersey as well.

Thanks,

Jennifer.

Hi Jennifer

There is a land registry system but it's not available over the internet.

I'll look next week when I look for Goosney!

Hi Jennifer.

The computerised land registry system I have discovered only goes back to 1753 and even then there are a lot missing. So it won't come as a surprise that I couldn't find any reference to Samuel Gasnnoy (or any variations of his surname).
