Hi Joanne

I'm having problems locating a baptism, marriage, death  or any census records for him in Wigtownshire. Could you tell me the source of your information, please?

There is a Samuel Agnew on the 1851 and 1861 census in Glasgow, born 1804 - 1809  but this one was born in Ireland.

Have you tried the Wigtownshire Pages ~

No baptism records for any children of James and Margaret in Wigtownshire on SP.

What religion were they?

On the shipping record it said that his Baptism was registered in Cork.  I'm sure he was Protestant and she was Catholic.  But it says his parents were Scottish.

So it looks as if they married in Stoneykirk and then went over to Ireland and then  moved to Australia - have you followed him up there because I don't think you'll find anything more about them in Wigtownshire  :-\ :-\

It might be worth trying the Cork Board as well ~

Also, you could try Somhairle and Sorley rather than Samuel.

To find information in Cork you will need to have a more exact location than Co. Cork.
Have you check marriage and death certificates for the 3 children born in Ireland to see if there's any location given?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
