Love the photographs.

The wife of Harry La Montagne was Beatrice Kinney, sister of Morris Kinney.

Think Harry was an Artist, Sculptor and Race Horse Owner - died June 1959
(Maybe shellyesq can get you the article - otherwise this is pay per view)

Lots of interesting branches from this family.  According to a family tree I found, Francis Key Pendleton was the son of a US senator - http://bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl?index=p000203  It also says Francis' mother was the daughter of Francis Scott Key, who wrote the words to The Star Spangled Banner.  http://politicalgraveyard.com/bio/pendleton.html

I found Harry's obituary, which is pretty detailed.  He didn't have any survivors.  For Beatrice, there is just a death notice as follows:

Quote
La Montagne, Beatrice (nee Kinney), beloved wife of Harry La Montagne and sister to Warren Kinney of Morristown, N. J., after a long illness.  Resting at the Funeral Church, 81st St. and Madison Ave.  Funeral private.  Paris papers please copy.

A social calendar from 29 Apr. 1906 lists Beatrice, daughter of Francis S. Kinney, and Harry as getting married at St. Patrick's cathedral on Monday.

Hi dettori28, dbath and shellyesq

Thank you so much your generous help  - thanks to all your help I have been able to piece a large amount of this puzzle together and it is very much appreciated.

The Photographs and articles and information really help to fill in the fascinating story of this part of my extended family.

I wonder what Philip's wife Lorraine's maiden name was and where they married ?

Kind regards - Luc.

Hello Luc,

Pleasure to be able to add a few snippets to unravel your family story, it seems a fascinating family to research and probably much more to uncover.   The articles Shelly found for you were an excellent find to enhance your family story with pictures.

With regard to Harry La Montagne, I believe he was married before his marriage to Beatrice in 1906.  Discovered another passport application 3 Jan 1899.
I Harry La Montagne apply for a Passport for myself and wife (unfortunately I cannot make out her name positively - its something like Emma  ???) She was born in New London. Canada 2 March 1871. He was born in New York 20 March 1868 and his father was a Naturalized Citizen. The application was made in December 1898.

From an article in The Day - 12th July 1898

The article refers to Mrs De La Montagne who was formerly Miss Emma
Morgan of Groton, visiting her Mother Mrs Thomas Morgan of Monument Street. Groton.  Apparently she had been very upset by the death of her Father the previous year and had been in poor health.  She took an overdose of morphine and although in a critical condition the prompt arrival of her Physician saved her life.
Since we know that Harry married Beatrice in 1906, it looks as if Emma La Mongne must have died between the Passport date in Dec 1898 and the new marraige in 1906.

For my part, you are certainly welcome.  I have been helped a lot here on Rootschat and it is nice to be able to provide assistance to others.  It looks like Shelly and Dettori were able to provide some amazing information, as I have almost come to expect here.  Good luck with the rest of your search.

I found a second passport and was able to send you both passport applications.  Lots of physical details listed as well as pictures.  Looks like we have struck a gold mine with all of these sources!

Many articles refer to the "Kinney Bungalow"

This little snippet was quite interesting - it refers to Beatrice, perhaps being called Francis

"Francis S. Kinney built the Bungalow in 1899 for his daughter, Beatrice's debutante party. However, the Trust believed that the daughter's name was Frances"

This Census shows the Father of Beatrice as a young man with his parents and equally famous brother Abbot.

1860 Census New Brunswick, Middlesex, New Jersey

F S Kinney 56 Gentleman
Mary Kinney 38
Nathaniel Kinney 24 Councillor at Law
Francis Kinney 21
Constance Kinney 22
