This could be your Bates :

1881 - Nathaniel is a farmer in Riverton the Electorate being Wallace - looks like he was Freehold on Section 17, Block 12 in Riverton.

1893 & 1896 -  if this is the same Chap, he has changed occupation to that of a Blacksmith, again the Electorate is Wallace, place of residence is Wairio.

There is also a Nathaniel Jnr living at Wairio who is also a Blacksmith in 1881.

No sign of Olive in the 1896 roll.

Cheers

Found a tree online with John Cook born 28 Feb 1882 Bell Block and died 23 Mar 1958 Fairfield Park, NSW, Australia. He married Caroline Teresa Maud Fenton 4 June 1913 Paddington, Sydney. Thye have 2 living children and a William James Cook 26 Jun 1915, Ozone, Manly-12 Feb 1975, Young, NSW.

No siblings shown for John

** Just seen your tree online with the same info**

More on the Nathaniel Bates that KHP mention http://www.reocities.com/Heartland/Flats/2366/grandad.html there is a contact email at the top of the site. It says he has had 27 children three Maori wives, were your Cook maori or part Maori?

an to find out if she had any children

Hi All

texasjoe ... it does appear that this Elizabeth Ann GRAYSON, was in fact the widow of another "Thomas COOK".

Here's her marriage to GRAYSON :

GRAYSON - COOK :  ... 1891 ...  John, 7th s/o the late George GRAYSON of Metheringham, Lincolnshire, England to
Elizabeth Anne, widow of the late Thomas COOK, both of New Plymouth
