Do you have the Glamorgan 1861 Census information for them?
I have found a match for your Maria and her parents:
Glamorgan 1861 Census, 4060 1861 CENSUS OF GARTH DISTRICT. REF.R.G.9/4060, E.D.23. Piece: 4060 Folio: 043 Schedule: 043. Address: BRECON ROAD 80
REES THOMAS Head of Household Married age 23 Occupation Coal Miner Born Merthyr (Tydfil) GLA c1838
REES ANN Wife Married age 21 Born Merthyr (Tydfil) GLA c1840
REES MARIA Daughter Unmarried age 1 GLA Born Merthyr (Tydfil) c1860
As no other children are listed on the Census entry I looked within the Free BMD website but found no match using both names. With just using Thomas's name & searching for a marriage around 1858-1861 I yielded these results:
Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Marriages Dec 1858
Rees Thomas Merthyr Tydfil 11a 560
Rees Thomas Merthyr Tydfil 11a 482
Marriages Jun 1859
Rees Thomas Merthyr T 11a 473
Marriages Dec 1859
Rees Thomas Merthyr Tydfil 11a 478
It may be worth your while visiting your local records office to view the GRO marriage entries using these Quarter and years (above) as starter points, If you find an Ann Williams with the same Reference as one of the above Thomas Rees's then you have a match. As you are dealing with common surnames for the area I can only see this as a way of narrowing down your search for your ancestors marriage. None of these may match at all, but at least you have a starting point.
If you are not in the position to visit an England or Wales records office you can also access the marriage indexes via:
http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/ as these are complete (not like the Free BMD) but this is a pay per view site and can be quite costly especially when trawling through such names are Williams and Rees.
Hope some of this helps you in your search
Jen
