Richard Llewhellin
« on: Wednesday 21 July 10 23:37 BST (UK) »
I have an ancestor -   Richard Llewhellin, who married Martha Russan, in Talbenny Church, on 6th January 1816. At the time of the marriage Richard was living at South Hill, Talbenny.

I believe Richard was a Stone Mason. Their four sons were baptised at Walton West. Three of the sons, Peter, William and Henry can be found, along with a James Russan, in the 1841 census in Merthyr Tydfil. I have not been able to find any further trace of Richard and Martha. Does any one have any information or advice to help my search?

Don’t know if this helps or confuses ;

James Llewhelling buried at Talbenny 1837
William Llewhellin buried at Talbenny 1832
Richard Llewellyn buried at Walton West 1820

11 Dec 1831 James Davies married Martha Llewellin a widow at St Ishmaels

That very interesting, I hadn't come across any of those entries,but it is a good while since I last looked at the records for those areas, they were some of the first I looked at.

I dont think it's the same Richard Llewellyn, as two of his sons were born, or at least baptised after 1820 (1821 and 1823).

The marriage of Martha Llewellin is interesting, and worth looking in to.

Many thanks

Clive

I visited the Rec Off today and had a look at the LTA's. I can confirm that there is no Richard Llewellyn occupier shown in the Talbenny LTA's for the period of your interes.
However, Walton West is another matter Richard resides at Walton in Walton West in 1815, 1820 and 1825, part of the Roch family estate.
If you require jpegs of the LTA's please drop me a PM with an email address.

I've finally got back to the records office! I found a burial for Richard Llewhellin, aged 31, on the 25/07/1825, in the Talbenny Parish Register. Also found a baptism for Martha Russan, 26/05/1793, the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Russan, in the Talbenny Baptism Register. There was a Richard Llewhellin, married to Ann, in Walton West, but obviously not my ancestor. Richards death in 1825, makes the marriage of Martha Llewhellin in St Ishmaels look even more interesting. On my next visit I will take a look at that, and the other Llewhellins you found in Talbenny.

I have now found a listing on the IGI for a William and Mary Llewellyn, of Talbenny, and their son Richard, although there is no place of birth given for Richard, but his D.O.B. is given as 1794, this fits my Richard. Williams' D.O.B. is 1773, and D.O.D. as 16/01/1832, which matches the one posted previously by Orielbenfro. Marys' D.O.B. is only given as c. 1773. There is no baptism entry for Richard in the registers of Talbenny, Walton    West, St. Brides, Dale or St Ishmaels. Does any one have any suggestions what I can try next?
