Lost South African Cousins!
« on: Sunday 25 July 10 08:31 BST (UK) »
Looking for family of Harold E. OGDEN and Dora Emily BINGHAM.  Emigrated from Australia to S/Africa circa 1918.

Children believed to be Constance, Veronica, Charles and Neville.

Any suggestions on how to find them or descendants would be much appreciated.

Cheers from Australia.

Hi saw your message, have you tried looking on the Ancestry24 website?I did a quick search on the National State Archives NASA website but could not find anything, however try that one as well.Any idea of the name of the ship they travelled on and which city they landed at?The 3 main ports would be Cape Town Port Elizabeth and Durban.

Cheers Derek

Thanks Derek,

Had a quick look at Ancestry24.

Have no idea at all about where or when they went to Sth Africa and am only working on anecdotal information.

Sorry for not replying sooner; have had a very hectic few days.

Will let you know if I find anything.

Cheers

Hi while I was looking up info for someone else I came across a website called ancestorsonboard.com, they let you look at the ship records for ships sailing from the UK to South Africa from 1890-1960,however to see the actual record you have to buy credits!!!

Anyway here is what I found for Ogden.

Name      Birth Sex Departure&Port     Bound For    Port
OGDEN   1886 M   1913 Southampton South Africa Cape VIEW  VIEW
OGDEN   1911 M   1913 Southampton South Africa Cape VIEW  VIEW
OGDEN H  Unknown M 1911 Southampton South Africa Cape VIEW  VIEW
OGDEN   1884 F    1913 Southampton South Africa Cape VIEW  VIEW
OGDEN   1888 F    1915 London South Africa Cape           VIEW  VIEW

These are the names I found round about the date you gave, which seems to be 1913 not 18, sometimes whoever transcribes the forms sees a 3 as a 8.

Hope this is some help.If you look at the lists there is a number of Ogdens travelling to South Africa but this is the closest to your dates.

Cheers Derek
