Stanton PARKINGTONs
« on: Sunday 25 July 10 10:19 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm looking for ancestors of the Parkington family from Stanton Suffolk. I have a Robert Parkington born ~1807 in Stanton who married a Susan(na) Fiske in 1828, but I can find no trace of his baptism or his ancestors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Don't know if you are still on the Parkington hunt. I have Robert (born 1807) as my wife's 3 times great grandfather. His son William was a miller and I have traced him (and his mills) around from Troston, through Stanton to Southwold where he died in 1897.

I can't get anywhere with Robert's birth or any of his ancestors. Have you had any joy since your posting. I can share descendant info with you if that will assist

best regards paul

If the family were millers, 'Windy Miller' might have some information - if not, no doubt he would like to know about the family.

I will send a PM to alert Windy to this message.

Thank you Pat - I have been tracking down the mills at Troston, Stanton and Southwold but Robert and William seem to have kept low profiles despite being shown on the censuses as "master" millers? Look forward to a session with Windy then

Hi Paul,

Just got a PM from Pat.  Unfortunately (or not) I'm leaving Blighty for a 3 week hol in Aus tomorrow a.m.  Nevertheless I have had a very quick look at my database and I can only find a few entries, William (at Stanton Smock Mill) in 1879 & William Parkington at Southwold 1886 when his son (William Fisk Parkington) married a Lois Card, 1889 when his daughter married Herbert Smith.

Bit disappointing!  If you've any extra info I'd love to add it to m database.  You say he and his brother (?) were at Troston and Southwold too.  Any ideas when and which mills?  There were 4 mills (excluding the Salt works mill) in Southwold during the years of interest.

The mill at Troston was in the Fordham family from 1869 until her demise, so the must have been employees.  Any relation there?

Sorry I could be of more help.  I'll look further when I return.

Windy.

No doubt the information on dear Ray's database is part of Hugh's 'Fiske Family Papers' web site, the best website for anything Fisk/e related.

If you go to http://www.fiskes.co.uk/ and put in Susan Parkington, information on her and Robert at Stanton will appear.
