Can anyone help?
« on: Thursday 29 July 10 11:05 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find any information on Charlotte Katherine Norris born 18th Oct 1914.
I believe there were 9 or 11 siblings in the family. She was born in Westham.
She lived at 14 Stafford Ave Gidea Park Hornchurch Essex.
She married Arthur William Cordery in 1938. In 1945 I beleive she had a son born in the Oldchurch Hospital.
Does anyone know anything about this lady. It is very important to my Husband and myself.

Hi Rocod, this is obviously really important to you and your husband.  Problem is, that on this forum we can't publish any details of anyone who might still be alive.  I see from another of your posts http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=kqn9iqbu1arppgps3cscqrhvn7&topic=470891.0;prev_next=prev that you have the immigration record.  Do you believe that Charlotte returned to the UK?  I had a quick check, and there appears to be no record of Charlotte Cordery dying up to 2005, but not knowing the family circumstances we don't know if she remarried or died in Australia.

If you want to know a bit more about Charlotte's family history, we should be able to locate her parents etc and identify some siblings if that would help?

Thank you. They migrated to Australia and both parents are now deceased. We would like to find out further info of her life in England. Especially around 1944.

I guess I would start with the electoral roll for the address on the birth cert - if it is the Gidea Park, Hornchurch one then you might get lucky because Hornchurch electoral registers start in 1945.  This link gives you more info about how to contact them local studies library http://www.havering.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=3427

As for Charlotte's younger years, the most likely looking marriage to be her parents was between a Joseph Henry Norris and Annie Lavinia Cumming in Jun qtr 1894 Totnes 5b 383.  I think Joseph was a sailor and was away from home for the 1901 and 1911 census.

Joseph and Annie had (as you suspected!) many children:
Annie Rosina (1895)
Henry Charles Cumming (1898)
Arthur Gerald (1904)
Cyril Ralph (1906)
Frederick John Leslie (1908)
Bessie Sarah Maud (1911)
Boy bn 1912
Charlotte (1914)
Girl bn 1919
Boy bn 1921 (names not given just in case they are stil alive)

Looking at the data on the National Archives website, it suggests that Havering Local Studies should be the repository for limited amount of records, but that the archivist has no record of it!
