What is a Whitesmith???
« on: Monday 24 May 04 11:43 BST (UK) »
Hi

Just received my great grandmother's death certificate today and her father is list as having the occupation of a whitesmith.

Has anyone seen this before and could they please tell me what it is. Every other ancestor i have found has been either a labourer or a miner and haven't come across this one before.

Thanks

Jaki

Hi there

According to my Oracle

Whitesmith
(n.) One who works in tinned or galvanized iron, or white iron; a tinsmith.
(n.) A worker in iron who finishes or polishes the work, in distinction from one who forges it
