Evans family
« on: Thursday 29 July 10 18:39 BST (UK) »
I have traced my great grandfather back to Irvine, Scotland on the census forms but also mentions Ireland. John Evans born 1845 ireland died 1893 inverkip, scorland. His father James born Ireland 1803 and died in Irvine 1875. Can you point me in the right direction of how I can trace them back from where in Ireland they came from.

Unfortunately both John and James were born before the start of full Civil registration, so you would need to research parish records to locate details for them. It is worth investigating all Scottish records you can on the family to see if there are any clues there - e.g on census returns, birth certs etc

To research parish records you need to know the family religion and a fairly detailed location for them i.e. townland, town or parish
