Hi Edward.

Although I have found a reference to Cecil St in the index of a 1934 A to Z, I can't find it on the actual map.
It would appear to have been in the vicinity of the present day Lloyd St North and Higher Cambridge St.

Hi

I was born at 120 Cecil Street, Manchester in 1942.  Do we have some shared interest?

Warren

Hi all,
Thank you for your replies, I am away from home at the moment and therefore do not have all my information at hand. but I will try to explain my interest.
During WW2 my father served in the 131st Field Regiment Royal Artillery in Europe.
After he died in 1995 I decided to discover the history of the Regiment and as a result I have become the unofficial Historian for the Regiment. I received copies of wartime photos taken during 1944-45 from a Gunner, now living in Australia, there is very faint writing on them and one of the addresses appears to be 120 Cecil Street Manchester. I will get  the name when I return home. You can see my memorial website at (3W's)131fieldra.co.uk
Thanks again,
Edward Seymour

It's all very interesting.   We lived at 120 Cecil St until about 1946 after which my grandmother lived there for several more years.   My father also served in the Royal Artillery and I believe his last unit was 25/53 Heavy Regt in Germany.   It could be that he knew your contact in Australia.  Does the photograph you have actually show Cecil St.  If it does I would love a copy.  I have a photograph of number 104 just before the whole area was demolished but nothing of number 120.

Best wishes

Warren

Hi All,
Thanks for your help, I must say I am staggered by your response.

To WarrenB, if you look on my site, at the war diaries for January 1946 you will see that 201 men from 131st Field Regt. RA were posted to the 53rd Heavy Regan. RA
It seems fairly safe to assume that our fathers served together.

The photo was taken, I believe by the Rev. David Cairns and shows four gunners each with an address, one being 120 Cecil Street, so it is possible I have a photo of your father with his mates.

I was in Manchester yesterday (Tuesday) to attend the Funeral of a man from the Regiment.
When he was eighteen and a half years old,he was sent to France as a replacement on about 23rd July 1944 just as the Regiment was being bombed!
Once again thanks, Edward
